Height: 6' 3", Weight: 215 lb. Born: April 5, 1985 in Long Beach, CA High School: La Quinta (Westminster, CA) Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 1st round (10th pick) of the 2003 amateur draft.
Ian Stewart was the 10th overall pick by the Rockies in 2003. Being touted as high as the #16 overall prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, Stewart debuted on August 11, 2007. He got further playing time in 2008, playing in 81 games and putting up his best offensive averages. The left-handed hitting cornerman hit at a .259/.349/.455/.804 mark with 10 homers and 41 RBI as a 23 year-old. It looked like Stewart was ready to fulfill the potential that made him the #10 pick in '03. However, he struggled to hit consistently as the everyday third baseman for the Rockies over the next two seasons. Stewart hit a new low in 2011, missing most of the season due to injury, but did play in 48 games and hit just .156 with no homers. In December 2011, the Cubs acquired Stewart along with minor league RHP Casey Weathers in exchange for Tyler Colvin and up-and-coming infielder D.J. LeMahieu. Always considered a decent defender, Stewart will be the Cubs starting third baseman in 2012 as he comes in as the much-cheaper replacement for Aramis Ramirez. Stewart is under Cubs' control until 2015.
